Using Food Banks to Escape Homelessness in Brantford

Brantford’s Food Banks

Along with using food banks, getting off the streets can be done using the following steps:

  • Getting food & water
  • Warm shelter & clothes
  • Job skills & an income
  • Getting your own place
  • Joining a social group

To begin, we’ll go over the food banks that we would use. This is part of a series of steps we would take to get out of homelessness and rebuild our lives.

Brantford Food Bank

Firstly, the Brantford Food Bank’s vision is to see everyone fed, working, and connected. Likewise, their hours are Tuesday to Friday between 9AM – 11:45AM and 1:00PM – 3:30PM. They can be reached at (519) 751-4357.

FRIENDSHIP HOUSE OF BRANT

Of note, Friendship House of Brant is a Christian outreach centre with a food bank, bagged lunches, breakfast, and brunch. They’re open every Wednesday from 10AM to 12PM. Their phone number is 519-753-8511.

ST. ANDREW’S SOUP FOR THE SOUL

St. Andrew’s Soup for the Soul offers free, nutritious meal and social support services. Moreover, they’re open Monday to Friday beginning at 1PM. They can reached by phone at 519-752-5823. SALVATION ARMY PARIS FOOD BANK

The Salvation Army Paris Food Bank is a drop-in food bank where eligible Brant Country residents get food assistance every 30 days. They are a bagless food bank, and we encourage you to bring your own reuseable bags. They require valid government ID for all household adults. Health cards or SIN cards are not accepted. On Monday & Thursday between 1PM and 3PM you can pick up a meal. Call them at (519) 442-3432.

FIRST BAPTIST BRANTFORD FOOD CUPBOARD

Secondly, the First Baptist Church’s Food Cupboard reduces hunger and gives a caring presence for those in need. To clarify, you can only attend every two weeks. Meanwhile, their hours are every Thursday from 9:30AM to 11:30AM. You can call them at (519) 753-2406.

LAURIER UNIVERSITY FOOD BANKS

Laurier University undergrad students get five free parcels per school term suitable for all food restrictions, each usually last over a week. Their Instagram is wlu_foodbank_b. SALVATION ARMY CHRISTMAS PROGRAMS

Community and Family Services runs Christmas Kettle Drive, donation letter distribution, gift cards for food and toys for local families in need. They’re open Monday to Friday between 9AM to 4PM. You can call for information at (519) 752-7813.

GRAND RIVER COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTRE

Grand River Community Health Centre (GRCHC) offers a daily refreshment cart that includes a snack, beverages & necessary supplies such as socks, hats, sunscreen and other necessities. In addition, they also offer a shower station. Consequently, the refreshment cart is open Monday to Friday between 11AM and 1PM. Further, the shower station is open Monday to Friday between 8:30AM to 4:30PM. You can call the GRCHC at 519 754-0777 ext. 473.

City of Brantford Food Banks Calendar

Most importantly, the City of Brantford also offers a calendar schedule that’s always updated. As a result, you can use it to check what time each food bank is open.
